Ganguly Tells Gambhir to Help Shubman Gill Avoid Bowling to Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah's workload will pose the greatest challenge for the Indian team management as they prepare for the Test series against England, which begins on June 20. This is especially true given that chief selector Ajit Agarkar has disclosed that the experienced fast bowler is unlikely to participate in all five games due to specific directives from the BCCI medical staff and physiotherapists. Head coach Gautam Gambhir is now faced with the challenging challenge of determining the ideal matches for Bumrah's deployment. But on Wednesday, former India captain Sourav Ganguly suggested a "cheat code" for how India may maximize Bumrah's potential in their attempt to win a Test series in England.

Ganguly told RevSportz that he is keeping his fingers crossed about Bumrah's health for the duration of the competition. He went on to say that "so be it" if the management believes it is necessary to give him a break for the second game, but that Bumrah has to play the last two games.

"I wish Bumrah good health for the five test matches. A healthy Bumrah will be essential, so it may even be necessary to let him rest after the second Test match before bringing him back for the fourth and fifth.

The Indian legend next advised Shubman Gill, the new Test captain, on how to use Bumrah throughout the games. He also advised Gambhir to keep a close eye on the action and provide the captain with guidance as needed.

"Shubman Gill must learn not to bowl Bumrah into the turf. Use him in brief bursts as a wicket-taker so that he is in good condition for five test games. Mohammed Siraj is a warhorse with amazing fitness and talent, and young Arshdeep Singh has also joined in. Ensure that Bumrah is employed as a wicket-taker. He must comprehend that, and I'm convinced that the senior players there will assist him, as well as Gautam [Gambhir],” Ganguly said.

Shubman Gill vs Jasprit Bumrah: Who will lead India's Test side?

"If India can win..."

Ganguly believed that India might win their first series in England in over a decade if Bumrah could stay healthy for even four games, despite the fact that the Ben Stokes-led team would be entering the series as favorites in the wake of the unexpected retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

"On paper, the batting lineup is very inexperienced right now. Of course, the situation on the ground is quite different. It's a strong test squad that includes [Joe] Root, [Harry] Brook, [Ben] Stokes, [Ben] Duckett, Jamie Smith, and Brydon Carse. But still, nothing prevents India from victory. In sports, there is no such thing as a favorite. India will win the series if they put in the effort and Bumrah remains healthy for even four tests.
