The Stokes Ben Although England may have taken a 2-1 advantage in the five-game Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy by winning the Lord's Test by 22 runs, the home team still has a number of issues to address. During the first innings of the third Test, off-spinner Shoaib Bashir broke a finger while bowling and was forced to withdraw from the series. In the last innings, Bashir did come back to bowl a couple of overs for the home side, and he even claimed the last wicket of Mohammed Siraj, giving England a memorable victory.

Shoaib Bashir's replacement for the next fourth Test, which will take place in Manchester on July 23, was announced by England on Tuesday afternoon. For the fourth game of the five-game series, Liam Dawson has joined the home team.

Dawson, who is now 35, last played a Test for England in July 2017. Three games have been played for the Three Lions thus far. But his impressive play in County Cricket has gotten him a spot in the England team.

He has been a reliable member of the Hampshire team for a number of years, and in 2023 and 2024, he was named PCA Player of the Year.

"Liam Dawson merits his call-up. In a formal statement, England's national selector Luke Wright said, "He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire."

Jamie Overton and Sam Cook of the Pacers have also returned to their home counties to participate in the County Championship.

Bashir's situation in England is updated

On Instagram, England Cricket confirmed that Bashir has, in fact, been excluded from the series immediately after the Lord's Test. He'll have surgery the following week.

"Sadly, Bash has sustained a fracture to his left finger and has been ruled out of the remainder of the series against India," England Cricket's Instagram account said. We send him our best wishes as he prepares for surgery later this week. I wish you well, @Shoaib_Bashir13.

For his all-around performance in the Lord's Test, England captain Ben Stokes received the Player of the Match award. In the second innings, he captured three wickets. On the last day, he bowled over 20 overs.

Additionally, in the Lord's Test, Stokes had scores of 44 and 33. He also influenced the game-changing run out of Rishabh Pant just before the lunch break on Day 3.

The England team for the fourth Test is comprised of Chris Woakes, Josh Tongue, Jamie Smith, Joe Root, Ollie Pope, Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Liam Dawson, Brydon Carse, Jacob Bethell, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes (c).
