Kerala Blasters Prepare for Uncertainty as ISL 2025–26 Faces Major Disruption

Transfermarkt estimated Jesús Jiménez, the team's star Spanish attacker, to be worth INR 6.4 crores, but Kerala Blasters have formally cut ties with him. Jiménez was let go for nothing following a mutual agreement between Mesa Sport, the player's agency, and the club, even though he scored 11 goals in 18 games last season to lead the team.
Jiménez's contract was originally set to expire in 2026 after being signed for two years in 2024. The transaction was terminated early by both parties due to concerns about the future of the Indian Super League (ISL). Since then, the Spaniard has joined Polish team Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza, who competes in the Ekstraklasa.
Abhik Chatterjee, CEO of Kerala Blasters, spoke about the scenario, saying that the team is not actively seeking to release players but is allowing them the freedom to depart without any barriers.
"We don't want to let our players go. But we have informed them that if they want to leave, we will not ask for a transfer fee or try to make it hard for them to do so. He answered his call with Jesus, Chatterjee said.
He continued, "Right now, there are only two possibilities: either the ISL will begin late or the season will be canceled. We don't want gamers returning to us in the worst-case scenario and saying, "You could have told us." In conclusion, we have told the truth.
Whether more foreign player agreements will be canceled is still unknown.
A dispute between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and its business partner, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), has put the upcoming ISL season, which was originally slated for September 2025, in jeopardy. The renewal of the Master Rights Agreement is the central problem.
The AIFF has chosen to postpone any more conversations until the Supreme Court delivers its important decision this month.
The transfer plan for the Kerala Blasters
The Blasters have already started to reorganize their roster and administration after a miserable eighth-place result in the 2024–25 ISL season, where they only scored 29 points and allowed 37 goals.
David Catalá was hired as the head coach on a one-year contract through 2026 after Mikael Stahre was fired. Additionally, the club has recently let go of a number of players, including Milos Drincic, Kwame Peprah, Ishan Pandita, Kamaljit Singh, and Saurav Mandal. The departure of coaches Tomasz Tchorz, Werner Martens, and Slaven Progovecki from the crew side has also occurred.
The club's position on recruiting was made clear by Chatterjee, who stated, "I can only speak for KBFC, but I think at least four other clubs have decided to wait and watch." Every organization has a plan. The Indian market is quite distinct from the foreign market, which has more possibilities. We're waiting for clarity while operating behind the scenes. We'll be ready.
