The BCCI is now generally accepted as the most influential national organization in the world's cricket industry, not only the richest cricket board. The board has consistently outperformed its competitors in media agreements, business worth, and sponsorships, thanks to an unrivaled home product in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL's valuation alone dwarfs entire national cricket ecosystems, and in FY 2023–24, it once again demonstrated why.

The BCCI announced a record revenue of INR 9,741.7 crore for the fiscal year, with the IPL contributing INR 5,761 crore, which is about 60% of the board's total income. Rediffusion shared these data, which highlight how crucial the IPL has grown to the BCCI's financial structure.

“The IPL, now a 100% component of the BCCI, was found to be a golden goose in 2007 by the BCCI. The tournament is the greatest, and the value of the media rights is continuously increasing. According to Lloyd Mathias, business strategist and independent director, speaking to The Hindu Business Line, the IPL also provides a platform for players from the Ranji Trophy level. As the IPL expands, it will continue to generate profits.

In addition to the IPL, the board also made INR 361 crore from non-IPL media rights, and newer assets like the Women's Premier League and foreign rights packages are still contributing to its increasing stability and expansion. With annual interest revenue alone generating around INR 1000 crore, the enormous amount of BCCI's reserves, currently at over INR 30,000 crore, provides additional protection.

"The BCCI has tremendous potential to monetize traditional formats like the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and CK Nayudu Trophy in order to increase revenue outside the IPL." Additionally, the board has over INR 30,000 crore in reserves, which generates roughly INR 1,000 crore in interest annually. Due to growing sponsorships, media agreements, and matchday revenues, these revenues are not just sustainable, but they are also expected to increase by 10–12% annually, according to Rediffusion Chief Sandeep Goyal.

"The BCCI is the lifeline of the ICC"

The board's financial clout has a significant impact worldwide as well. The majority of the ICC's funding comes from the BCCI. As it should, the ICC is not generating income, according to Ajimon Francis, Managing Director of Brand Finance India.

The IPL's supremacy is unaffected by brief interruptions, such as the one during this IPL when military escalation at the India-Pakistan border caused the competition to be halted halfway.
