A Grand Goodbye? Cricket Australia Hints at Final Salute for Kohli and Rohit
6 months ago | 5 Views
Following his retirement from the Tests last month and the T20Is last year, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will next be seen in action in August for the tour of Bangladesh for a three-match series, the outcome of which is still up in the air. This will be followed by a three-match series against Australia in October in Down Under.
Cricket Australia is already arranging a farewell event for Kohli and Rohit, considering that this might be their final trip to Australia, as the ODI retirement, which will signal the end of an era, is soon approaching. The conclusion of the two veteran batters' international careers following the 2027 ODI World Cup has been widely predicted.
"It could be our last chance to witness Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play in our nation. Todd Greenberg, the CEO of Cricket Australia, said, "And if that is the case, who knows, it might not be, but if it is, we want to ensure that we give them a fantastic send-off and a reflection of the tremendous contribution they have made to international cricket."

Is Kohli going to participate in the BBL?
Additionally, Cricket Australia will use the chance presented by the India series to keep pushing the BCCI to let Indian players play in the Big Bash League. The Indian board has a stringent policy of not allowing contracted players to participate in foreign leagues unless they break all ties with the BCCI.
"That's definitely a few conversations we'll keep having with the BCCI. I mean, I'd really like to watch Virat Kohli play in the BBL this season. This would undoubtedly pique public curiosity in ratings and audience numbers. We have plans to engage in such activities, but as of now, we are not. Additionally, as you can see everywhere, private investment possibilities are being absorbed by t20 leagues.
The hundred in England is a recent example of that. Many IPL franchises are now acquiring ownership positions in the hundred. Here in Australia, we must continue to improve and innovate our business operations while maintaining an open mind to new ideas. However, the question of whether Indian cricketers, whether they are retired, recently retired, or currently playing, may have opportunities to play in the BBL is one that we will continue to discuss, and the short answer is that they would be very welcome, Greenberg added.
