The forthcoming Malayalam film Janaki vs State of Kerala (JSK) is a unique endeavor for its two main actors, Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran. It's a comeback film with Anupama, whose last film in the industry was Kurup in 2021, although it constitutes the former's first Malayalam picture since Garudan, which was released in November 2023.

The producers of the thriller-cum-courtroom drama film have already sold its OTT rights to a major streaming service in advance of its theatrical debut, with the two stars in the lead role.

Janaki vs State of Kerala OTT rights sold to ZEE5

The film, which is scripted and directed by Pravin Narayanan, is set to hit theatres on June 27. Its OTT rights have been snapped by ZEE5, which had also previously bought the rights of Suresh Gopi-starrers Paapan and Mei Hoom Moosa.

At the film’s audio launch that was held in Kochi on June 16, Pravin had said JSK talks about a relevant subject, “which I believe had to be told”. The director also said that the film, which had gone several script revisions before it went on floors in 2022, is finally ready for release due to its lead actors.

Suresh Gopi: I play a villain in JSK

"The film's director has already stated that it explores women-centric politics, but I believe it's a film borne from a woman's heart," said Suresh Gopi, who portrays a lawyer in the picture. Any man with a mother, sister, or daughter will undoubtedly have his heartstrings tugged by this film. But in this movie, I portray a lawyer who breaks a woman's heart. I'm not giving away the plot of the film, but I like to think that I play a bad guy in JSK.

The actor-politician also stated that the film will bring to mind numerous actual events for the audience. "From Nirbhaya to Athijeevitha, we have had several incidents where we now look back at our sisters only with tears in our eyes. We must keep in mind all of these events. According to this film, evidence, not truth, prevails in court. For this reason, he said, Janaki's voice must resonate with the audience.

Askar Ali, Shruti Ramachandran, Baiju Santhosh, and Madhav Suresh are also members of JSK.
