Debut filmmaker Vidyadhar Kagita is quite overjoyed by the success of his movie Gaami. Starring Vishwak Sen and Chandini Chowdary in the lead roles, Gaami was released in cinemas in March this year. Made on a shoestring budget, the film emerged as a profitable venture for its producers.

According to reports, Gaami earned more than Rs 22 crore from its worldwide ticket sales against the budget of Rs 5 crore.

Vidyadhar revealed that he has been making films since he was a teenager and it has helped him to make movies on tight budgets. He disclosed having produced short films with budgets ranging from Rs 5,000 to 50,000, emphasizing that financial constraints never hindered his filmmaking aspirations.

Gaami's streaming success

The film seems to have found a bigger audience following its streaming debut. Gaami became available for streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium earlier this month. The film has recorded a record viewership on the streaming platform, adding to Vidyadhar's happiness.

"I am glad that it is reaching more people. I always wrote a number that at least these many people should watch it. And I think that number has been crossed. And it has led to more conversation (around the film) and I understand some people have repellence towards the film being edited. It's a very intuitive film. It's not very intellectually challenging, but emotionally challenging," Vidyadhar told Galatta Plus recently.

Based on the trailer, Gaami seems to tell a story about an Aghora. Vishwak Sen essays the enigmatic role of the Aghora, who is suffering from a mysterious illness. Vishwak Sen's Shankar has a condition that doesn't allow him to touch or be touched by another human. And Shankar sets off on an adventurous journey to the Himalayas in search of a cure.
