The superhit Malayalam film not only took the Kerala box office by storm but also had a successful run in Tamil Nadu, all thanks to its connection to the 1991 cult Tamil classic film Gunaa, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Gunaa served as a major inspiration for Manjummel Boys. For those who don't know, Manjummel Boys is based on real incidents where a group of boys from Kerala visit Tamil Nadu's famous Gunaa Caves. Known as Devil's Kitchen in Kodaikanal, the cave got its name after Gunaa was shot there. The iconic song Kanmani was filmed there as well. Manjummel Boys showed the group of friends exploring the Gunaa Caves until one of them accidentally fell into a deep pit, with all his friends trying to save him.
