Following rumors that Vijay's forthcoming film Jana Nayagan was a remake of the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari, the publication of the 'First Roar' sneak peek may have provided some insight for fans. In addition to Vijay playing a massy cop, much like Nandamuri Balakrishna did in the original, the teaser and the Telugu movie have an unmistakable aesthetic resemblance.

A word on Jana Nayagan:

As previously stated, the actor Vijay had seen the Telugu movie Bhagavanth Kesari five times and liked it. Reports have been heavily suggesting that the movie is a remake of the Telugu film, which starred Nandamuri Balakrishna in the title role, ever since the announcement of the actor's last project, Jana Nayagan. Although the producers have remained silent on whether or not the rumors are true, the recent teaser for Jana Nayagan may provide some insight.

Vijay's initial teaser appearance portrays him as a police officer with a dramatic and very marketable entrance. The resemblance between him and Nandamuri Balakrishna, who also plays a cop in the Telugu movie, is hard for viewers to ignore. Fans have already started deciphering his personality and drawing parallels, from his mustache twirling to his sword-wielding vigilante and his coolers.

What has makers have to say about Jana Nayagan comparison?

Neither the production house, KVN Productions, nor the director, H Vinoth, have confirmed if the film is a remake. But with presence of Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju which seems to be a potential casting for Kajal Aggarwal and Sreeleela’s roles respectively, one can begin to believe that Jana Nayagan is indeed a remake. Anirudh Ravichander’s score for the teaser was met with lukewarm response with some comparing it to his Indian 2 work.

Jana Nayagan will release in theatres on January 9, 2026. The film also stars Bobby Deol, Priyamani, Gautham Menon and others.
