Saiyaara Smashes Advance Booking Records, Outpaces Aamir, Salman & Akshay’s Films

Today, July 18, marks the theatrical debut of Mohit Suri's love film Saiyaara. The Yash Raj Films-backed release features two newcomers in the lead roles: Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The movie has received a lot of attention prior to its release, even though it is directed by newcomers. Saiyara is poised to break several records if the advance booking is any indication of its box office success.
The advance booking receipts for Saiyaara
Sacnilk reports that Saiyaara's total advance bookings for the opening day totaled ₹9.39 crore, with 3.8 lakh tickets sold only in pre-sales. For a low-budget movie with newcomers, that figure is incredible. In comparison, the advance booking receipts alone are higher than the combined day 1 box office receipts for other debutant-led movies like Dhadak ( ₹8.76 crore) and Student of the Year ( ₹3.75 crore). Saiyaara is now out of competition with these movies. Rather, it is attempting to replicate the opening day numbers of several big-budget movies starring seasoned celebrities.
How Saiyaara triumphed over Bollywood superstars' expensive movies
The amount of advance bookings for Saiyaara is ₹9.39 crore, which is more than the majority of Bollywood movies that have been released this year. Kesari Chapter 2 performed even worse, with ₹1.84 crore, while Akshay Kumar's Sky Force came in at ₹3.78 crore. At ₹6.52 crore, Ajay Devgn's Raid 2 is also behind. With a total of ₹3.32 crore, Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par was also significantly behind. Saiyaara was only defeated by Salman Khan's Sikandar, and only by a narrow margin. Advance bookings for the action drama totaled over ₹10 crores. However, on two counts, Saiyaara was able to surpass the Salman-starring film even here. Not only has the Mohit Suri movie sold more tickets—3.8 lakh as opposed to Sikandar's 3.3 lakh—but it has also outsold the Salman film by a factor of two in national cinema chains (multiplexes). Sikandar had performed better in the mass belts.
With these impressive advance booking numbers, Saiyara is now aiming for an opening day of over ₹20 crore, which would be the fourth-best opening for any Hindi film this year, behind only Chhaava, Sikandar, and Housefull 5. In fact, trade experts predict that if Saiyara maintains its strong momentum throughout Friday, it might even surpass Housefull 5 and reach ₹25 crore.
