For the re-release of his 2013 movie, Raanjhanaa, director Aanand L Rai had voiced his displeasure with the AI-generated conclusion. The director has just revealed in a new Zoom discussion about the same subject how the ensemble, which is headed by Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, has responded to the action.
What Aanand L. Rai stated
When asked about Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor's response to the AI adjustment that gave the movie a positive conclusion, Aanand replied, "Nobody approves of this." Who would want it and why? It takes years to genuinely live a tale, and the character has already been created. Do you really wish to alter something that an actor has dedicated a significant portion of their life to? How could that even be?
"It is impossible to change a story by just rewriting the conclusion"
"Every tale has a purpose," he continued. What is the purpose of telling this specific tale? It belongs to a genre known as tragedy, which has its own unique taste. The audience makes a connection with it. It is impossible to rewrite the conclusion of a narrative in order to alter it. A character is infused with several levels of emotion by an actor, which really lends credibility to the genre. It's not possible to just say, "Let's modify the ending, now no one dies, and everyone lives happily." That's not how narratives are told.
In the interim, Eros, the film's producer, stated that it has taken note of Anand L Rai's "concerns and responded to him respectfully, reiterating our legal position and creative intent."
According to PTI, this is likely the first time the industry has seen a movie re-released in Tamil Nadu with a modified, AI-produced "happy" conclusion. The movie does not end with Kundan's demise in the Tamil version of the film created using AI. The Tamil dubbed version of the Hindi movie, titled Ambikapathy, was released in 2013. Himanshu Sharma wrote the screenplay for Raanjhanaa, which was directed by Aanand. On August 1, the movie will be re-released in theaters.
