In addition to seeing the premiere trailer for James Cameron's next science fiction masterpiece, Avatar: Fire and Ash, moviegoers will also get to see the screening of Fantastic Four: First Steps this weekend. The official Avatar X account states that the only place to see the exclusive first look is the advance screening of the Marvel movie.

Two rival tribes are introduced in Return to Pandora

The trailer, which was screened behind closed doors at CinemaCon in April, takes us back to Pandora and introduces us to two new Na'vi tribes: the Wind Traders, who fly about in hot air balloons, and their archenemy, the Fire People, who ride flaming creatures. In one scene, a blazing arrow breaks through the skin of a Na'vi as the conflict between the two sides intensifies.

In the teaser, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) tells Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), "We cannot live like this, baby. We cannot live with this hate."

The story continues where The Way of Water left off

Right after The Way of Water, the story of Avatar: Fire and Ash follows Jake's family as they meet the Ash People, a sect of Na'vi who have broken away from the traditional Eywa-worshipping clans. The Ash People, who live in volcanic regions and have a completely different set of beliefs and ways of life than the rest of the franchise, have been seen very little by fans.

Earlier this week, the press in Disney's New York and Los Angeles offices saw the new trailer, which featured Varang, a new foe portrayed by Game of Thrones actress Oona Chaplin. In the video, Sigourney Weaver plays Kiri, the daughter of Jake and Neytiri, who is kept prisoner by Varang, who is seen walking across a volcanic scene illuminated by magma while sporting a spiky red and black headdress. She declares something horrifying like, "Your goddess has no dominion here."

Internal strife among the Na'vi

At this point in the series' plot, things are about to change. In the movies, humans and the Na'vi have always been at odds. Now that Fire and Ash are looking into the internal turmoil of the Na'vi, it seems like they are.

As director James Cameron told Empire, Varang is the leader of a group of people who have experienced immense hardship, and that experience has made her stronger. She will do anything for them, even if it is something we would consider horrible.

He added that they intended to make this movie as complex as possible. They are striving for a change in mindset from "all humans are evil, all Na'vi are good."

The violent realm of Fire and Ash is brought to light by the poster

The movie's trailer and official poster were unveiled simultaneously. It features a close-up of what looks like Varang's face, which is covered in war paint and has a cut across the middle. Her braided hair, shattered volcanic skin, and shining amber eye all imply a sense of power, rage, and transformation. Behind her, red spikes spread out like flames, resembling ceremonial feathers or battle armor. The film's exclusivity and fundamental message are highlighted by the tagline "Only in Theatres: December 19" and the vivid color scheme.

If Fire and Ash follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, Avatar and The Way of Water, which both grossed over $2 billion worldwide, the trilogy may be the first ever to see three films reach that milestone.

Future installments are already scheduled

The fourth Avatar movie will be released on December 21, 2029, and the fifth film will be released on December 19, 2031.
