Rajkummar Rao's latest movie, Maalik, which debuted in theaters this weekend, is taking a very popular approach. In a stark contrast to his typical image as a small-town boy, Pulkit's film depicts the actor as a cold-blooded mobster. Although the film's genre and magnitude predicted a successful debut, early trends indicate that this is not the case.

Trends in advance booking for Maalik

A day and a half before the release, the producers of Maalik launched advance reservations for the movie on Wednesday afternoon. However, the movie was moving slowly at the ticket counter by Thursday night. Only 6,500 tickets were sold across the three national cinema chains: PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. This is a fairly modest amount. Despite a modest rise in sales overnight, the advance booking for Maalik remained depressing, not giving the Rajkummar Rao movie a bright outlook.

Forecasting the box office for Maalik

Due to the low advance booking numbers, Maalik will not have the massive mass start that Rajkummar Rao may have wished for. The picture is projected to have an opening of between ₹3 and 4 crores, according to industry insiders. These predictions are also rather positive. According to more conservative projections, the movie made less than ₹2 crore on its first day in the country. Regardless, Sunny Deol's Jaat is still a long way off from being the last low-budget mass action movie. The first day of that movie made 9 crore rupees. The time loop comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, Rajkummar's prior film, debuted at ₹7.2 crore. The box office for both films may only be half under Maalik's control.

Concerning Maalik

Rajkummar, Manushi Chhillar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and Saurabh Shukla play key roles in Maalik, which is directed by Pulkit. With the action thriller, Rajkummar makes his debut in the genre. According to industry experts, the movie must make between 60 and 70 crores in India in order to be considered a success, which is a difficult goal if it doesn't get off to a good start.
