The Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan back in the year 2021 sets the stage for Kabul, a gripping geopolitical thriller mini-series. After making its World Premiere at the Series Mania festival in Lille in March 2025, the French-English series is set to make its OTT debut in India on Lionsgate Play and OTTplay Premium.

When to watch the Kabul series?

The English series Kabul, by a French production, is coming on Lionsgate Play and OTTplay Premium on June 20, 2025. Interestingly, Indian viewers will be able to watch the mini-series in English and Hindi. Co-directed by Kasia Adamik and Olga Chajdas, Kabul stars Shervin Alenabi, Thibault Evrard, Vassilis Kukalani, Jeanne Goursaud, Gianmarco Saurino, Valentina Cervi, and Eric Dane in pivotal roles. The series features Jonathan Zaccaï as a French diplomat.

What is the plot of the Kabul series?

With depth and nuance, this six-part series brings the story to life, giving an intimate look at the intricacies of the scenario, all based on producer Fabienne Servan-Schreiber's own experience in the hectic evacuation attempts.

Amid the chaos and evacuation attempts during the Taliban's capture of Kabul, Afghanistan, in August 2021, the drama centers on a family and several European agents. The series examines the Nazany family's experiences as they become a target of the Taliban and their challenges in adjusting to the fast evolving circumstances.

At the same time, the program follows the attempts of various Europeans—such as a French security chief, an Italian attaché, and a German soldier—to handle the situation and guarantee the well-being of those in their care.

Other thriller series available on OTTplay Premium

While you wait for the June 20 broadcast of Kabul, watch other thriller series from around the world on Lionsgate Play and OTTplay Premium, such as Rachel Keller's Tokyo Vice, Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock, Hailey Kilgore's Power Book 3: Raising Kanan, Sarah Parish's Curfew, and Souheila Yacoub's No Man's Land, to mention a few.
