In January this year, Kannada filmmaker R Chandru, who is best known as the man behind Kabzaa to a national audience, had announced the launch of a new production wing, RC Studios, through which, he would bankroll 5 films. Chandru would direct only 2 of these 5 films he had said, adding that all of them would be pan-Indian projects.

The first of the lot is a film called Father, which has Darling Krishna in the lead. It will be directed by Tamil filmmaker Rajmohan, with Prakash Raj playing Krishna’s father, while Telugu actor Sunil will also be seen in a pivotal role. It was earlier said that the film would go on floors on February 27, but according to the latest, it will begin rolling on April 27. The film is Krishna’s first pan-India project.

Krishna was last seen onscreen in Kousalya Supraja Rama, a film that tackled the subject of male chauvinism. During the promotions of the film, he had said that he’d not signed anything new for a while, as he was looking at doing something different and not the routine love stories he did for a while after the success of Love Mocktail. Earlier, Krishna had always maintained that he preferred romantic dramas because of their repeat value.

The actor had first announced a period film Halagali for which he began a physical transformation, to sport a leaner and more muscular frame. In the meantime, he has also taken up this film under RC Studios. Earlier this year, Krishna was busy with the Celebrity Cricket League as one of the star players of the Karnataka side. His batting prowess in the initial few matches powered the team to a final showdown with Bengal, a side they also played in the play off, but in the crucial moments of the tournament, his form let slip. The Bengal side walked away champions.

R Chandru's Kabzaa may not have worked with audiences, but he has hit films like Taj Mahal and Charminar to his credit, both of which you can stream on Sun NXT with the OTTplay Simply South pack.
