Agnyathavasi Ending Decoded: Why Rangayana Raghu Suspects a Murder in His Jurisdiction

The seasoned actor Rangayana Raghu was cast as the lead in the tale of Agnyathavasi without hesitation by Gultoo filmmaker Janardhan Chikkanna, who was determined to give him a part worthy of his artistic skill ever since he witnessed him in AMR Ramesh's Cyanide. The movie portrays Raghu as the police inspector of a tranquil town named Nalkeri, where crime is practically nonexistent. Raghu's character is never given a name for reasons that will become apparent throughout the movie.

The major characters in Agnyathavasi

He spends more of his time farming since there are so few policing demands in this village, while his subordinate Anantha, portrayed by Ravishankar Gowda, serves as a temple priest as well as a local matchmaker, among other things. After his only son Arun went overseas in search of a better life, Srinivasaiah (Sharath Lohithashwa), one of the wealthy men here, is left alone. However, Arun has not only abandoned his father; Pankaja (Pavana Gowda) has also been waiting patiently for him to come back and bring her with him.

However, Arun, who has been busy establishing himself abroad and catching up with his job, does not return home for several years, much to Pankaja's disappointment. Fortunately, she now has a way to communicate with him more easily, thanks to Rohit (Siddu Moolimani), a young local boy who became the first person in Nalkeri to own a computer and became a modern-day postman, sending and receiving emails on behalf of the community.

The tale's twist

Until one beautiful day when Srinivasaiah is discovered dead, everything seems alright. Everyone suspects that it is murder, but the inspector investigates further and discovers something suspicious. However, who would want to murder Srinivasaiah? He wasn't the most popular, but murder appeared unlikely, so I concur. The two officers start to solve the puzzle, but there is also the need to notify Arun of his father's death, and Rohit is the only one who can reach him.

However, when they get to Rohit's house, they discover that he is also dead, most likely from being electrocuted by his computer, which then caught fire. However, the inspector then sees leftover food on the table that is strikingly like the rubbish he discovered outside Srinivasaiah's home. What are the links?

Well, it turns out that Pankaja plotted to bring Arun home somehow after Rohit started to fall in love with her. She would murder Srinivasaiah and have Rohit call Arun, who would then be compelled to return for the rituals. To prepare Srinivasaiah's favorite chicken meal, she would use pashambara, a naturally occurring poison root, and let it soak in the water for a few days. With the particular directive that only Srinivasaiah should consume from the tiffin box, she sends it with Rohit, who occasionally visits the elderly man.

Unaware of Pankaja's plan, Rohit also poisons the food for his own reasons in order to murder Srinivasaiah, but not before setting aside a few bits for himself. Srinivasaiah experienced a double whammy! However, how did the inspector put this all together? He feels guilty about having to use a 'deal' approach to handle his mentally ill mother years ago.
