Aamir Khan Opposes CBFC Edits on ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’; Censor Clearance Pending

Just one week before the scheduled theatrical release of Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, an issue has occurred with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The censor certificate's issuance is being postponed as the actor-producer and the CBFC are allegedly in disagreement over suggested modifications.

Aamir Khan Rejects CBFC's Proposed Cuts

The CBFC has asked for two cuts of the movie, a request that Aamir Khan vehemently opposes, according to Bollywood Hungama. The entertainment site was told by the insider that the CBFC has asked for two cuts. Aamir believes the movie should pass without these cuts. The insider disclosed that he and R. S. Prasanna put a lot of effort into making the movie. When seen in their appropriate context, many scenarios and discussions make complete sense.

The disagreement has prevented the movie from obtaining its censor certificate. The insider disclosed that Sitaare Zameen Par was unable to obtain the censor certificate because Aamir refused to agree to the edits. The actor is now getting ready to go back to the CBFC Examining Committee on Monday to make his argument. Aamir expects the CBFC to approve the movie on June 16 when they identify a remedy. They will then offer the film for advance reservation once they have finished that. Theatres are not allowed to sell tickets unless they have a censor certificate.

Despite domestic obstacles, the movie receives a 12A rating in the UK

The movie has received certification in several other nations, therefore it isn't all negative. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) in the UK has granted Sitaare Zameen Par a 12A rating. According to the BBFC website, the movie is two hours and 35 minutes long and includes "discrimination and moderate sex references."

The movie, which is directed by R S Prasanna and stars Genelia Deshmukh as the female lead, will be released in theaters worldwide on June 20.

Theatrical tactic changed

When Sitaare Zameen Par was initially approved, the plan was to start with a limited number of screens and rely on word-of-mouth promotion to grow. Strong interest from the exhibition industry has prompted a change in this approach, according to reports. The movie is now expected to debut in between 3,000 and 3,500 theaters across India..

Aamir's decision to withhold the film from any OTT platform prior to its theatrical release increased excitement in the unusual digital-first market. Sitaare Zameen Par has been a hot topic of conversation as its release date approaches due to its extensive marketing, persistent certification concerns, and other considerations.
