Too occupied with other things to maintain a diet or exercise program for your health? According to yoga instructor Saurabh Bothra, rather than making significant and hard lifestyle changes, just adopting a few basic healthy habits every day may transform one's life.
In a livemint interview, Bothra, who delivers live guided sessions and habit-building courses via his platform HaBuild, gave his top five tips for living a healthy life. Take a look at his suggestions:
1. Water consumption: The yoga instructor claims that drinking simple glasses of water will help maintain hydration, which is really good for one's health. It provides an additional benefit in addition to improving skin health and aiding digestion. "Drinking a lot of water will make you go to the washroom more than once, and encourage movement," Bothra says.
2. Move: If you are a busy working professional who spends more time sitting than standing, make sure you get up and move about at least once every hour. Bothra advises how to boost movement by saying, "In our office, we have a trend of doing an 3-minute activity after every hour. We do squats, deep breathing, or anything that makes us move around."
3. Deep breathing: A deep breathing session is strongly advised by the Nagpur-based instructor for busy working people. For those who are frequently torn between the demands of their personal and professional lives, he says that even five minutes of concentrated breathing exercises can have a therapeutic effect. "It's a great stress-buster," he claims. Bothra advises box breathing (inhale, hold, exhale, and hold for a count of four) and coherent breathing (inhale and exhale for the same duration of about five seconds).

4. Get enough sleep: As children, we heard our parents say it over and over. It's time to prioritize your sleep hygiene now that you're an adult. "Everyone to sleep before 11:00 pm at least. Regardless of how busy you are, after 11:00 p.m., most people are often just doing time-pass. A healthy lifestyle depends on having good sleep quantity and quality, he says.
5. Exercise: If your schedule prevents you from exercising every day, aim for at least three 45-minute workouts per week, advises Bothra, who uses his online platform to help people get into yoga.
In addition to these suggestions, he offers a pro tip: "Don't try to do five things at once!" That's not how it goes. For a period of seven or fourteen days, do a little thing, and then begin to introduce additional items, one at a time. Don't attempt to accomplish everything at once, since we typically fail and fall into the all-or-nothing trap. Either we perform everything or we simply cease performing and wait for the first of January to roll around again," he advises.
Maintaining good health also depends heavily on stress management. When questioned about how he handles stress, Bothra replied, "Some days truly get to me. The best way for me to cope with stress is to go to sleep. Therefore, on my busiest days, I go to bed early to make sure that tomorrow will be better.
