Kidney cancer develops when kidney cells start to grow uncontrollably, which could result in a tumor. Lifestyle factors frequently play a major role in raising the risk of kidney cancer, even if genetics may be a factor.

"Many of our everyday habits, harmless as they may seem, could be quietly increasing our risk of developing kidney cancer," stated Dr. Amit Saple, executive director and senior consultant urologist at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology in Vizag. Kidney cancer is frequently referred to as the silent disease because it usually doesn't manifest symptoms until it has advanced. "However, the roots of the problem may be concealed in our bathrooms, daily habits, and kitchen."

Dr. Amit Saple listed the daily behaviors that might increase the risk of kidney cancer:

1. Avoiding water and drinking tea or soft drinks

Especially in hot, humid areas, many folks don't consume enough water throughout the day. Dehydration impairs kidney function and raises the accumulation of toxins. This makes one more likely to get kidney cancer.

2. Excessive salt in everyday meals

Excess salt is heavily ingrained in our diets, from pickles and papads to curries and all the fast food we eat. Over time, it causes kidney strain and a propensity for cancer.

3. Excessive use of painkillers

Common practices include self-medicating with painkillers like paracetamol, diclofenac, or ibuprofen for fevers or backaches. These harm kidney tissues and raise the risk of cancer over time.

4. Any kind of tobacco

Tobacco delivers carcinogens that enter the kidneys via the circulation, whether it is smoked or chewed. This continues to be one of the most significant, avoidable causes of kidney cancer.

These daily habits can affect your kidneys.

5. Too much red or processed meat

Regularly eating grilled, fried, or processed meats exposes you to dangerous substances that have been associated with cancer. A diet rich in plant-based foods provides superior kidney protection.

6. Inadequate exercise

Obesity, hypertension, and insulin resistance, which all put strain on the kidneys, are caused by a less active lifestyle and less exercise.

7. Disregarding elevated blood pressure or blood glucose.

These two silent killers not only harm the heart but also rupture small blood vessels in the kidneys, raising the possibility of malignant alterations.

8. Combination of alcohol and tobacco

This mixture greatly speeds up kidney harm. Moderation and caution are essential.

9. Steering clear of health examinations

Often, kidney tumors are found incidentally during scans for other concerns. Regular health screenings can detect early indicators before symptoms appear.

10. Thinking that it won't happen to you.

A misleading sense of safety postpones behavioral adjustments. Screening and lifestyle changes become much more important if there is a family history of kidney illness or cancer.
