Beyond simply the buildup of visceral fat, obesity can have several effects on the body, some of which we are not always aware of. The skin, which obesity can have a major impact on, is one such region.

"60–70% of obese adults suffer from a variety of skin problems, from minor irritations to serious chronic diseases such psoriasis, acne, and even skin cancer," said Dr. Purva Kundu, a consultant dermatologist at Kaya Limited, in an interview with Lifestyle Magazine.

Skin health and obesity:

3. Reduced hydration: Obesity is often associated with dry skin.

4. Altered blood flow: Obesity has been associated with changes in the skin's microcirculation. Some studies suggest that in overweight individuals, erythema, or redness of the skin, may be caused by changes in blood flow and decreased vascular responsiveness.

5. Psoriasis: The red, scaly spots on the skin caused by psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune illness. Obesity has been identified by research as a major risk factor for contracting or worsening psori

6. Acne: Obesity can cause hormonal imbalance, which can lead to excessive oil production in the skin and clogged pores.

7. Atopic dermatitis: Obesity-related inflammation can worsen eczema symptoms, making flare-ups more difficult for patients.
