Hidden in Plain Sight: Fitness Coach Flags the Real Threat in Your Daily Meals
6 months ago | 5 Views
Doctors, health specialists, and nutritionists often advise us to eliminate sugary foods and soft drinks from our meals in order to improve our health and change our diet for the better. While they are frequently thought to be the worst offenders in the fight against adopting a nutritious diet, did you realize that seed oils are actually a far greater supervillain hiding in the background?
What's the worst thing for your body?
With his new video, a fitness instructor started a new conversation about the risks of cooking your food using seed oils. With 1.3 million followers on Instagram, Lars Meidell is the Norwegian creator of Reinvented AS. In his most recent video, he discussed how the worst thing you could ingest isn't fried chicken, sugar, or cola, but rather something that 'hides in everything you eat.'
In his film, he discussed the oxidative stress brought about by seed oils. An imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the body's ability to detoxify them results in oxidative stress, according to the National Library of Medicine. Although ROS are a normal byproduct of oxygen metabolism and perform vital functions like cell signaling, environmental factors like UV radiation, pollutants, and some medications can cause their levels to rise, resulting in tissue and cell damage.
"The majority of individuals consume this food on a daily basis, which results in hormonal imbalance, heart illness, and even cancer," according to Lars' video. Sunflower oil, canola oil, maize oil, and soybean oil are examples of vegetable seed oils. They are inexpensive, processed, and full of harmful omega-6 fats," he stated.
What do experts say about seed oils?
In an earlier interview with Huberman Labs, Dr. Mark Hyman, the founder of the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Functional Medicine, discussed seed oils in depth.
"We should be prioritizing entire food sources of fat, such as avocados, coconuts, nuts, seeds, and fish-derived omega-3 fatty acids. Olive oil, particularly extra virgin, is among the least processed oils on the market. The worry occurs when we ingest nuts and seeds that naturally include omega-6 fatty acids in heavily processed form, even though we do eat them.
The fundamental problem with seed oils, he said, is their excessive Omega-6 concentration, which can be harmful if not properly balanced with Omega-3s. According to him, this disparity is thought to cause inflammation. Additionally, he expressed worries about how these oils are produced and processed.
He noted that a lot of seed oils are derived from genetically modified plants, such as canola, which are frequently treated with harsh chemicals. After that, the oils go through industrial procedures like oxidation, bleaching, deodorizing, and treatment with solvents like hexane, all of which he thought rendered them inedible.
Although he admitted that the data regarding the risks of seed oils is still contradictory, he came to the conclusion that he would not choose to eat something so heavily processed.
