High-protein diets have become a popular option for many fitness enthusiasts, whether they're looking to lose weight or gain muscle. However, may your protein-rich diet be silently hurting your heart? Although protein is necessary, consuming too much of it may have unknown hazards. In his Instagram post from June 23, cardiologist Dr. Dmitry Yaranov details how a high-protein diet can raise your risk of having an early heart attack and developing long-term heart issues.

"He resembles a shredded, vascular statue. Peak performance." But I have witnessed what is within those ships, and it is not a pretty sight," Dr. Dmitry adds.

The impact of really high-protein diets on your heart

According to Dr. Dmitry, excessive protein intake over several years, particularly from animal sources, can result in:

  • Sky-high LDL (bad cholesterol)
  • Endothelial dysfunction
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Premature atherosclerosis

"Indeed, the outside of the body resembles a machine. However, he warns, the interior reveals a different picture. Dr. Dmitry has seen apparently "fit" 35-year-olds experience unexpected heart attacks with no prior symptoms or warning indicators. "No symptoms. A ticking time bomb without any warning, he claims.

The fact that you appear fit doesn't always mean that your heart is healthy.

He cautions viewers that physical fitness is not the same as inner well-being:

Heart health is not ensured by being athletic.

Low body fat does not always indicate a low risk.

A six-pack will not shield you from a heart attack or clogged arteries.

"It doesn't matter how strong your biceps are if your diet damages your endothelium," he cautions. Over harsh dietary patterns, Dr. Dmitry advises concentrating on balance, plant-based meals, and significant blood work for long-term heart health.
