At age 86, Chris Robinson, who was known for his commanding presence on The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, and 12 O'Clock High, passed away on Monday. According to actor-musician MJ Allen, who worked with Robinson on the 2022 movie Just for a Week, he passed away in his ranch close to Sedona, Arizona.

Robinson's legacy is imprinted in the history of American television and cult film thanks to a career that lasted more than eighty years. He was the one who famously remarked, "I'm not a doctor, but I do play one on TV," on national television.

From Florida to the forefront of television drama

Christopher Brown Robinson was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, on November 5, 1938. He spent his first few years in Hollywood modestly. He made an uncredited appearance in The Midnight Story (1957) when he was only 19. He was already appearing in B-movies by the time he was in his twenties, such as Beast From Haunted Cave (1959), where he not only played the lead role but also created the monster costume.

He gained a lot of screen time in the 1960s. In Birdman of Alcatraz and The Young Savages, John Frankenheimer held his own against Burt Lancaster. He became well-known thanks to 12 O'Clock High, which was released in 1965. Robinson joined as Technical Sgt. Sandy Komansky in Season 2 and stayed a mainstay until the show's last episode in 1967.

Soap operas, celebrity, and controversies

In the 1970s and 1980s, if you watched daytime television, you probably saw Robinson at work. He entered General Hospital in 1978 as Dr. Rick Webber, who had been married to Lesley twice and was Laura's adoptive father. His stint on the ABC soap opera lasted until 1986, and he made a dramatic comeback in 2002, only for his character to be killed by a candlestick.

Later, as Jack Hamilton on The Bold and the Beautiful, he found himself in love triangles with Stephanie, played by Susan Flannery, and Sally Spectra, played by Darlene Conley. With a short encore in 2005, his time on the CBS blockbuster spanned ten years.

Robinson gained notoriety as the face of Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup outside of the spotlight. Peter Bergman took his place after his endorsement was halted by legal issues and his conviction for income tax fraud. Robinson, ever the survivor, maintained to shoot General Hospital while serving his sentence on weekends and evenings.

An unfiltered, unwritten existence

Robinson's passion for storytelling went beyond just acting. Throughout the 1970s, he produced, directed, and acted in a number of independent films, such as Thunder County, The Intruder, and Catch the Black Sunshine. He said in a 2017 interview, “I didn’t participate in the editing and didn’t even see the finished film, which was never released.” I simply forgot about it after moving on to other things.

According to reports, the actor had six children with several partners and a plethora of tales behind each chapter. In the documentaries Bankrupt by Beanies and Bastard: An Illegitimate Film, his son Chris provided a peek into their strange family background. The latter disclosed frank information about Chris's conception and their family dynamics, stating, "No matter how we came to be, all of us are connected."

In addition to his grandkids Ivy, Ava, Davey, Brooks, and Knox, Robinson is survived by his wife Jacquie (whom he married in 2011), his children Shane, Coby, Christian, Christopher, Chris, and Taylor.
