Upasana: Seek Your Ram Charan, Skip Marrying for Money
5 months ago | 5 Views
Upasana Konidela, the wife of businessman and performer Ram Charan, posted a message on her Instagram account stating that "new India begins at home." Despite admitting that she comes from a privileged background, she stated that women shouldn't marry solely for 'money or status.'
Why do women get married, asks Upasana Konidela?
Upasana started by acknowledging that she comes from a privileged background, but she then went on to discuss how women find themselves trapped in marriages for a variety of reasons, even in cities. She discussed researching the subject in a course taught by Debora Spar, a Harvard professor, that examined the reasons why women get married when they no longer need to.
“Many are financially independent, and some are even more successful than the men around them. They are raising their children in accordance with their own principles. The focus is no longer on needing a guy; rather, it is on picking a partner who treats you with respect and equality. Although it's simpler said than done, this is the mindset change we need more women to adopt, she said.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, marital conflict was the third major cause of murders in India, a fact that Upasana also highlighted. She discussed how a healthier India can only be achieved by healthier homes, how women can be the 'fulcrum of change,' and how they have a responsibility to future generations as well as themselves.
Asks women to wait for their Ram
"Let's urge women to marry from a position of strength rather than fear. Don't marry for fortune or position anymore; if necessary, you may create them with the proper companion. Let's start teaching our boys early about emotion management, establishing boundaries, and respecting diversity. Upasana said, "Let's not push women into schedules; let's rather give them the resources and freedom to succeed, regardless of what they choose to do."
She concluded the letter by advising women not to get married until they discover their Ram. "Someone who treats you with respect, walks beside you, and celebrates your strength – not someone who expects you to shrink to fit his comfort zone," she wrote. Additionally, Upasana implored society to prioritize women's health and welfare. “Wait for your Ram. You may also choose to go on your own. Both are acceptable. They are both powerful, she concluded.
