Unni Mukundan Remembers Childhood Near Ahmedabad Crash Site: ‘My School Friends and I Are Still in Shock’

Before relocating to Thrissur for his studies and to Kerala for a career in the movie business, Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan spent most of his life in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The actor reminisced about growinging up close to the crash site in Ahmedabad while speaking to Manorama Online following the Air India plane disaster on Thursday.

In the interview, Mukundan claimed that he lived in Maninagar, Ahmedabad, from childhood until he was 24 years old. It is located a few kilometers from the site of the Air India flight that crashed with 242 people onboard.


He stated, "I have come to know the plane crash took place in Meghaninagar, ten kilometres away from Maninagar in Ahmedabad," remembering that the crash site is near to where he grew up playing. I spent 24 years living in Maninagar. Gujarat is one of my favorite states, along with Kerala. I grew up and spent my teenage years there. I feel a great deal of sorrow in my heart from this news. My friends from school and I are shocked.

On social media, he expressed his sorrow, saying, "Heartbroken by the news of the Air India Ahmedabad-London flight crash." I empathize with the families who experienced the loss of a loved one. I can only imagine how heartbreaking this must be, and I hope they have courage during their darkest hours. "May every soul lost find their peace, and may those left behind experience the warmth of love and support in their community."

The Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad and London

An Air India plane operating a flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed just seconds after takeoff on Thursday. There were 242 people on board, and just one person survived. The passengers were 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. "Air India stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the survivor is a British national of Indian descent." Additionally, they declared a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of the deceased passengers.
