Umesh Shukla Refutes ₹8 Crore Payoff Allegations Linked to Aamir Khan’s PK Makers

Filmmaker Umesh Shukla has addressed the parallels between his 2012 film OMG—Oh, My God! and Aamir Khan's 2014 blockbuster PK, which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, after much conjecture. In a recent interview with Friday Talkies, the director discussed thematic links and dispelled the rumors that had spread around the time of the movies' releases.
Comparisons Between PK and OMG—Oh, My God!
OMG and PK employed satire to condemn the advertising and manipulation that were prevalent in religious ceremonies when it came to religion and blind belief. In OMG –, Paresh Rawal played the role of an atheist. Oh My God! Who brings a lawsuit against God after an earthquake destroys his store? Akshay Kumar guided the main character through a legal battle that questioned the supremacy of organized religion while playing the part of a modern-day Krishna. In contrast, Aamir Khan played an alien in PK who was trying to retrieve a stolen communication device after becoming stranded on Earth. The movie documents his expedition as he confronts religious beliefs and people who assert they are gods.
"I think they might've had a similar idea in mind," Shukla said when discussing the similarities. If my movie had come out before PK, people may have commented that it looked like PK. My play had been seen by Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Abhijat Joshi, the writer. Therefore, some contemplation is inevitable when someone studies a related topic. Naturally, if you're creating a love story and someone utters "I love you" in the movie, they will do so because it's a love story.
Disproving claims
Vidhu Vinod Chopra allegedly paid Shukla Rs. 8 crore to withdraw from OMG, according to an earlier allegation. He refuted the claim by saying, "At that time, there were even rumours that Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who was part of PK, gave me ₹8 crore to not make the film." However, that was only rumor; nothing of the sort actually occurred.
He went on to say, "Wo apne aap mein itne talented log hain." Everyone, including Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and others, is so talented that they don't take such high actions just to give money. All of them are extremely skilled people. All of them flew away at that time; there was nothing like that. (Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Aamir Khan are too skilled to engage in behaviors like bribery.) "At the time, all of this was simply flying – there was no truth to it."
Both films achieved success
Despite the dispute over their originality, both movies were successful. OMG – Oh My God! was praised for its bold plot and grossed 149 crore rupees worldwide. PK had a tremendous box office run, earning ₹792 crore globally.
Although thematic similarities have been clear for a while, Umesh Shukla's recent statements laid to rest speculation of hostility or wrongdoing on the set and showed the directors working on these films' mutual respect.
