Wednesday marked the first time that an Indian woman, actress Deepika Padukone, received a star on the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Walk of Fame, which was unveiled in Hollywood on Wednesday night, included Deepika among its new inductees. She is well-known in the West for her role in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. The fact is that a selection committee chooses the inductees each year, even though several sources said that celebrities may "buy" a position on the Walk of Fame. Following that, the stars must pay money, but only to keep their prized location in good condition.
Who is eligible to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
Los Angeles' famed Hollywood Walk of Fame runs along Hollywood Boulevard. There are more than 2,700 stars on the ground, each devoted to a different celebrity. Anybody may be nominated as long as they are seen to be famous. The star on the Walk of Fame is generally regarded as a great honor, even if there isn't a formal standard for it. The prevalent view is that 'has-beens' and 'where-are-they-nows' are not inducted into the Walk of Fame. You have to be a star in order to become one.
The Walk of Fame Class of 2026 features notable individuals like Demi Moore, Chris Columbus, Tony Scott, Greg Daniels, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Deepika Padukone, Emily Blunt, Timothee Chalamet, Marion Cotillard, Stanley Tucci, Rami Malek, and Rachel McAdams.
Who selects the honorees for the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
The official body that manages the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, gets 200–300 nominations annually. Then, a selection committee chosen by the group chooses a few inductees annually. Each star recognizes artists for their influence on mainstream culture in the fields of film, television, music, radio, and live performance.

Why do celebs pay for their Hollywood Walk of Fame star?
The induction and selection process is free of any costs or payments. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's selection committee makes the decision. But the inductee must accept to pay a sponsorship charge of $85,000 (about ₹73 lakh). This annual fee covers the star's upkeep. "The fee is used to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame," according to the official website of the Walk of Fame. The cost may vary.
