The Devil Wears Prada, which was initially published in 2006, has gained a cult following among readers worldwide. Therefore, fans were understandably thrilled when Disney revealed, after 18 years, that a sequel to the comedy drama was in production. Will Meryl Streep reprise her role as Runway editor Miranda Priestly in the sequel? Will Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway also be back? For all the information we have on the sequel thus far, read ahead.
Cast
According to Entertainment Weekly, the sequel will feature the return of the original ensemble, including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, director David Frankel, and producer Wendy Finerman. Aline Brosh McKenna will also be contributing to the film's script.
Stanley Tucci had voiced his delight at the prospect of a sequel to the film. "I can only say that I'll be glad if it happens. I've produced a lot of films—maybe around 100—and I don't even know how many TV episodes, but that was one of the best experiences I've ever had," he told People.
Plot
The sequel will center on Miranda as she struggles with the fall of print journalism and tries to figure out how to salvage her magazine publishing firm, according to EOnline. Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, is the only person who can assist in this situation. Emily is currently employed as an executive at a high-end fashion company.

“Magazines and publishing have changed so much,” McKenna told Entertainment Weekly. “This is a period of time where [Andy] took a physical book to someone’s house every day so she could leaf through it.” They may still do that, but I have my doubts. It had its time!
Date of release
Variety reported that the release date for the sequel has been officially set by Disney for May 1, 2026.
The original movie was inspired by Lauren Weisberger's 2003 book, which tells the story of a young woman's harrowing time at a fashion publication. Meryl played Miranda Priestly, the formidable editor-in-chief of the made-up Runway publication. The movie was a tremendous commercial triumph, grossing $326.7 million around the world. Additionally, Meryl was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy for the movie.
