Lagaan, which Aamir Khan co-directed with Ashutosh Gowariker, was a major hit both critically and commercially. The movie even received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Ashutosh also told Aamir the story of Swades at the time, as he was preparing to shoot his following movie with him. Aamir disclosed in a Zoom interview why he declined to star in the movie and admitted that he has yet to see it.

Aamir shared the tale of why he declined to work on Swades during the conversation. "I found it very boring!" he exclaimed. When Ashu told me the entire tale, I had told him this. In fact, Ashu told me the story when we were filming Lagaan. It was known as Kaveri Amma at the time. He told me that. In the movie, which was eventually called Swades, Mohan Bhargava's foster mother was named Kaveri Amma.

'I haven't seen Swades till now'

"It was a three-hour tale," Aamir continued. I replied that I wanted to share my initial reaction with you when he inquired about my opinion. "I became bored," I said. "It's critical that you hear this reaction." No matter how noble the idea in that kit is, and what you're saying is really essential and accurate, I won't find it entertaining if it's delivered in such a boring manner. I'm bored, but I don't know anything about Baki. You need to make it intriguing. In fact, I haven't seen any movies from Swades so far. perhaps he fixed it… I noted that everyone really enjoyed Shah Rukh's work (What you’re trying to say is very correct, noble. It's important, but I got bored if you stated it in such a monotonous way. I'm not sure about others. He would have fixed it, and people would have enjoyed it if I had seen the movie myself. I did observe that Shah Rukh's performance in it was very popular with the audience.

Many people believe that Swades is Shah Rukh's finest acting performance. The movie also received two National Awards.

Aamir will next be seen by fans in Sitaare Zameen Par, which is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones, directed by RS Prasanna. It will come out in theaters on June 20.
