Tarun Mansukhani on His Extended Film Break: Divorce and Debt Took a Toll
5 months ago | 5 Views
Following the release of Dostana, Tarun Mansukhani was one of the most discussed filmmakers. The director, however, went almost ten years without a release. The director of Housefull 5 has just explained why he didn't continue working despite the tremendous success of Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, and John Abraham.
"I had an costly divorce."
Tarun disclosed in a Just Too Filmy interview that, despite Dostana's immense success and the numerous chances it afforded him, he was unable to accept any of the offers because of turmoil in his personal life.
"Life was full of events. I experienced a divorce. It was not a nice one. It was a costly experience for me, and life simply took its course. I didn't have the bandwidth or mental space to create a movie. At that time, I was aware that I was in debt and that I didn't need to fix it. I had no intention of creating a movie; I would either get paid for it or earn money from it. Tarun stated, "The moment I do that, it is tainted by that because I am making a film in fear. I'm not going to be fun on that set either."

In 2014, Tarun terminated his nine-year union with Karuna. The pair, who had been together since they were children, agreed to file for divorce. Reports indicate that their relationship started to encounter problems in 2011, which led to them moving in separate in 2012. Their disagreements became irreconcilable even though friends and family tried a lot to bring them back together.
Tarun Mansukhani discusses Drive's shortcomings.
Tarun returned in 2019 after Dostana and directed Dharma Production's Drive, which starred Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez. The movie received critique for its poor acting, dubbing, and CGI. It is said that the movie went directly to Netflix rather than having a theatrical debut because Karan Johar was dissatisfied with it.
"I stand by Drive. Shah Rukh sir remarked, "You will have many hits in your career," once. "It is the one that didn't really work that becomes your favourite because, at the end of the day, that is the little weak one in your house, and you want to hold it close and give all the padding you can," Tarun stated.
Tarun's Housefull 5, which features Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan, has surpassed the ₹200 crore milestone globally. The fifth installment of a comedic franchise that started in 2010 is Housefull 5. It is created by Sajid Nadiadwala under his Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment label.
