Shiva Rajkumar Refutes Applauding Kamal Haasan’s Kannada Comment Amid Thug Life’s Uncertain Karnataka Release
6 months ago | 5 Views
In Karnataka, there has been a tremendous uproar ever since Kamal Haasan, an actor, said that Kannada was born out of Tamil during the publicity for his forthcoming film Thug Life. Even as a pro-Kannada group warns theaters against releasing Thug Life in the state, Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar, who was also present at the promotional event, refutes that he applauded when Kamal made this remark.
Shiva Rajkumar refuted clapping in response to Kamal Haasan's comment
Previously an advocate for Kamal, Shiva told the media that he doesn't concur with Kamal's remarks about Kannada. “All the languages are important to us,” he said. However, Kannada comes first when it comes to the mother tongue; there is no question about it. As I've stated before, I am willing to lay down my life for Kannada. I shouldn't say that (Kamal Haasan must apologize). He is a senior actor, and I am the biggest fan of him.”
He then made it clear that several people seem to think that he clapped in response to Kamal's remark at the occasion as a show of support for it. Even if Shiva acknowledges that he did clap, it was for a different reason. "I didn't comprehend what was happening during the event," he stated. They are, however, displaying clippings as if I were applauding for this. I was clapping because he said he was my chithappa (uncle).
The theater is warned by a pro-Kannada group
According to the pro-Kannada group Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, which was cited by ANI, the owners of the Victory Cinema Theatre in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, were warned not to screen Mani Ratnam's Thug Life. In addition to prohibiting the film's release in Karnataka, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has demanded that the actor apologize for his words.
"Kamal Haasan has spoken against the Kannada language," Praveen Shetty, a member of the group, told the news agency. In Karnataka, we won't let Kamal Haasan's movie be released. They stated that the Victory Cinema would be the location of the movie's release. We informed the theater owners today not to release Kamal Haasan's film. The government will be held accountable for any unfortunate events that occur after the movie is released.
What may happen to Thug Life
Mani Ratnam directed Thug Life, which also stars Silambarasan TR and Trisha Krishnan in prominent roles. Sacnilk claims that Mani's earlier movie, Ponniyin Selvan—Part 1, made ₹28.12 crore in Karnataka, and Part 2 earned ₹22.55 crore there. Karnataka was the second highest-earning state for both movies, behind Tamil Nadu. In India, Kamal's Indian 2 made ₹8.55 crore.
But the actor has stood firm in his refusal to apologize for his remarks, telling the press, "It is a democracy." I have faith in law and justice. I genuinely adore Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Those who have an axe to grind will be the only ones who suspect it. I've been threatened before, and if I'm wrong, I'll say sorry; if I'm not, I won't.
