Aamir Khan Attributes Loveyapa’s Box Office Failure to Nepotism Backlash Against Son Junaid

With the Netflix movie Maharaj, Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan made his acting debut and received rave reviews from reviewers and viewers alike. However, his stage debut, Loveyapa, did not do well at the box office. Loveyapa's failure, according to Aamir, was caused by the nepotism argument in an interview with Raj Shamani.

When asked what bothered him more—the failure of his own films or that of Junaid's—Aamir responded, "I always felt that I was deeply attached to my work, almost obsessively, and what happened to my projects really mattered to me. However, I discovered that a father's feelings take over when Junaid joined the field. Currently, I'm more interested in Junaid's work. I want him to be recognized for his efforts, be happy, and be successful. That's a very powerful feeling as a dad.

The failure of Loveyapa, according to Aamir Khan

He then turned to Loveyapa's failure, saying, "I really liked the picture when Loveyapa released, and I thought Junaid had done a good job." He acted in a manner that was very dissimilar to who he actually was. This is one of Junaid's traits: he becomes the persona. In my opinion, the movie received a great deal of unfavorable response. There was a lot of trolling, and I think nepotism took over, leading people to believe that these were nepo kids. It was branded as a "nepo kid" film, heavily trolled, and pulled into the nepotism controversy. However, Junaid and I are different. I haven't meddled in his professional life up to this point, and I don't intend to. I really advised him against studying acting in a formal setting.

Regarding Loveyapa

Loveyapa, a remake of the 2022 Tamil film Love Today, is directed by Advait Chandan. In the romantic drama, Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor play the main characters, a young couple who are compelled to exchange phones prior to their wedding. After its OTT release, the film received some positive reviews, but it made just ₹8.85 crore in revenue globally. JioHotstar is now live with it.

Aamir Khan's next movie

Following this, Aamir will star in Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual continuation of his popular 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. Genelia D'Souza plays the main role in the movie, which is set to debut in theaters on June 20.
