With social media users charging that she is appealing to the male gaze, the album cover for the singer Sabrina Carpenter's upcoming release, Man's Best Friend, has sparked debate. With some labeling the artwork as triggering, many individuals utilized social media to vent their rage.

Details about the upcoming album are revealed by Sabrina Carpenter

The Grammy-winning pop diva announced the title and release date of her upcoming album, Man's Best Friend, on her social media accounts on June 11, after the publication of her most recent single, Manchild.

Sabrina, 26, announced, "My new album, 'Man's Best Friend' (paw emoji), is out on August 29, 2025," and "I can't wait for it to be yours."

She also posted a photo that seems to be the album's cover. The image depicts an unknown person tugging Sabrina's hair while she kneels on the ground in a dog-like position, wearing a black dress and high heels, and standing off to the side.

Debate is sparked by cover image

The album cover has generated considerable discussion and examination on social media sites like Reddit, with one user stating, "Gonna be that person and say she's not beating the 'catering to the male gaze' allegations." What are we up to here?

"This is only for men; if it were for the female gaze, SHE would be in the power suit with shirtless men on dog leashes or she would have a dude on his knees in front of her," another remarked.

"People are already saying 'it's SATIRE, she's a COMEDIAN,'" one social media user remarked. What, specifically, is humorous in the image? It would be somewhat better if she were striking this posture with a knife attached to her ankle or rolling her eyes, but she's actually giving the viewer 'f**k me' eyes; this is for men, not for us women.

I'm so tired of this adult woman acting like a kid while also sexualizing herself. "Really sick," said another.

One social media user commented, "Right? I'm all for women empowerment, but she's the one on the floor getting her hair grabbed. It gives me an ick," and another said, "She's really gone out of her way to degrade herself here." I've never witnessed a woman submit herself as a man's dog. Her and her team's decision was really misguided.

One person said, "I hate this," and another observed, "Yeah, this wasn't even something the creative team thought of, it absolutely is triggering," as some people described the picture as "very triggering."

One commenter said, "What the hell is that cover? I've been supporting Sabrina since 2017 and love her music, but this is awful." The cover was described as "uncomfortable" by one reviewer and as "disgusting" by another.

But the daring artwork was greeted with open arms by some Sabrina fans along with the announcement of new music. In the comments section, one supporter wrote, "SUMMER OF SABRINA FOR A SECOND YEAR IN A ROW," while another said, "Sabrina is coming for album of the year, artist of the year, pop vocal album, all of it and I'm here for it."

Additional details regarding Sabrina's music

Sabrina's seventh studio album, Man's Best Friend, comes after the release of her groundbreaking 2024 album, Short n' Sweet. The album, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, included popular songs like Espresso, Please Please Please, Taste, and Bed Chem. On June 5, she gave Man's Best Friend a taste of Manchild's release.
