Ramayan’s Arun Govil Says Modern Stars Fall Short of Playing Lord Ram Before Ranbir Kapoor’s Version

Arun Govil, the actor who portrayed Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, is unsure if any Bollywood celebrity can play the character. His remarks follow the release of Adipurush, a Ramayana-based film starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon that drew a lot of flak and was panned for its special effects and writing. Following that is Ramayan, which stars Sai Pallavi and Ranbir Kapoor.

What Arun Govil stated

Arun told NDTV, "Three or four individuals attempted to replicate it, but they were unsuccessful." Someone shouldn't attempt to replicate Ramayan in our lifetime, in my opinion. With regard to who might play Ram, I don't believe that any of the current stars or actors are qualified. Perhaps you can locate someone outside of the profession.

In the hugely successful and critically acclaimed 1987 television series, Dipika Chikhlia played the role of Goddess Sita, while Arun played the role of Lord Ram.

Concerning the forthcoming Ramayana movie

One of the most anticipated movies in recent memory is the forthcoming Ramayana film, which is not known to everyone. As a result of the release of images from the film's production, fans were given an intimate look last year at the metamorphosis of Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi into Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.

The film's excellence, which you are producing, astounded me," Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said last month during the Waves Summit 2025. I believe that this is the way that we should communicate our stories to the next generation, and I think that what you're establishing will be the finest in the world.

Ramayana, which is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, has an ensemble cast that features Yash, the star of KGF, as Ravana. Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, and Lara Dutta also play significant roles in the movie. The first half is expected to be out on Diwali 2026, with the second half following in 2027.
