People Magazine also emphasized the strange reported nature of Sunjay's death as well as his friendship with William. Prince William was also mentioned in the coverage of the billionaire businessman's death by most British newspapers. The Daily Mail stated, "Billionaire friend of Prince William dies from heart attack after 'swallowing a bee'." The Telegraph likewise stated, "Billionaire friend of Prince of Wales dies after 'swallowing a bee'."

Sunjay led the company's growth into China, Mexico, Serbia, and the United States after taking over as managing director following his father's death in 2015. According to Bloomberg, Sona Comstar has a market capitalization of ₹31,000 crore (almost $4 billion). At the time of his death, Forbes estimated Sunjay Kapur's net worth to be $1.2 billion (₹10,300 crore).

The Indian entrepreneur based in London was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016. The two have two kids. Sunjay was formerly wed to Nandita Mahtani, a fashion designer and stylist, from 1996 to 2000. He had a son with Priya Sachdev, a model-turned-actress, whom he wed in 2017.
