For the Harry Potter franchise, the quest to find the future generation of Hogwarts students is now complete following a grueling casting process that included more than 30,000 budding performers. The most significant piece of information is that we now know who will fill the cherished position of Ron Weasley alongside Harry Potter and Hermione.

Who is Alastair Stout?

In the forthcoming HBO television series, Alastair Stout will play the role of Ron. He was nearly a nobody before landing the part in the show. Only an advertisement for Albert Bartlett potatoes, dubbed "Roll on Jersey Royal Season," is listed among his earlier credited performances. The Scotsman said that Stout took on the role of the "son at dinner."

Throughout the Harry Potter films and J.K. Rowling's books, Ron is a crucial figure and one of Harry Potter's closest friends. His flaming red hair sets him apart as the second youngest of the seven Weasley children. He is from a large, loving, but financially modest family. Rupert Grint played Ron in the Harry Potter films.

Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, while 11-year-old Arabella Stanton will play Hermione.

"After an exceptional search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron," said Francesca Gardiner, who serves as the executive producer and showrunner of the Harry Potter franchise. She went on to say, "The talent of these three exceptional actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to see their magic together on the big screen."

Gardiner continued, "We would like to express our gratitude to the tens of thousands of youngsters who tried out." It's been a true joy to see the abundance of young talent out there. With the streaming service Max (previously HBO Max) at the helm, the Harry Potter television series is now officially in production. The wizarding world's author, J.K. Rowling, who is based in Edinburgh, serves as an executive producer.
