On Friday, the Telugu movie Kannappa, which starred Vishnu Manchu and was highly anticipated, will be released in theaters. The legend of Kannappa, a devoted devotee of Lord Shiva in Hinduism, serves as the basis for the mythological fantasy thriller. In order to caution trolls against launching "intentional and destructive attacks" on the movie, the producers have made a forceful statement in advance of its release.

Notice from the makers of Kannappa

The official statement was shared on the movie's official X account with the message "Public Caution Notice." With complete legal clearances, our movie Kannappa will be released worldwide on June 27, 2025. Any misuse, manipulation, or slanderous behavior directed at the film or its stakeholders will be subject to legal action.

"The movie has been made responsibly to engage with the general public, and we thereby respectfully request that all critics watch the film first, appreciate its substance, comprehend the intent, and then comment on it with responsibility, rather than succumbing to premeditated biases or vendetta-fuelled commentary," the notice said.

"We retain our right to initiate the necessary legal procedures"

It also mentioned, "We acknowledge that the freedom of speech and expression is sacred and protected under Article 19 (1) (a) of the Indian Constitution. However, judicial interpretations have also made it clear that any intentional and harmful attack, whether it be physical or reputational, on a creative work does not fall under protected speech. Instead, it constitutes an actionable injury, and we maintain our right to pursue appropriate legal action in this matter."

Additionally, it's important to highlight that the Hon'ble Delhi High Court has provided protection for the personality and publicity rights of two main figures involved in Kannappa, specifically Dr. Mohan Babu and Mr. Vishnu Manchu. Any damage or dilution of their persona, image, or regional characteristics, including any unauthorized use or distribution of content that misappropriates or defames them—whether for commercial, personal, or other purposes—could lead to repercussions under the current directive from the Hon'ble Court as well as under relevant laws," the statement noted.

The film features Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, alongside Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, and Madhoo, among others. It also includes some star-studded cameos—Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva, Mohanlal as Kirata, Prabhas as Rudra, and Kajal Aggarwal as Goddess Parvati. The movie is set to hit theaters across the country on June 27.
