According to The Hindu, the Madras High Court wondered on Wednesday how the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) could have refused Manushi certification. After the CBFC allegedly denied them a censor certificate without identifying any objectionable scenes, Vetrimaaran petitioned the court on Tuesday for the movie that he produced and that N Gopi Nainar directed.

Manushi is the subject of CBFC's inquiry to the HC

Justice N Anand Venkatesh, according to the report, questioned the CBFC's decision to reject a certificate without identifying the offensive scenes, images, lines, music, or other material that should be changed. The judge said that the producer would not be able to make the necessary changes or edits to the movie, resulting in financial loss, unless the segments were specified.

"The right to speak and express oneself includes the production of films. Because of this, the filmmakers are already experiencing a lot of challenges. According to the judge, you can't refuse certification for a complete film without outlining the problematic areas and expect a filmmaker to start from scratch.

The CBFC had until June 16 to either send a list of the objectionable segments or view the movie with Vetrimaaran and show him the scenes.

The reasons for the CBFC's decision not to censor Manushi

The judge was informed that the CBFC's screening committee and examining committee had suggested against certifying the movie for five reasons, according to reports. According to reports, the certification panel claimed that Manushi had scenes that defied the integrity of the State, showed contempt, criticized government policies, reinforced stereotypes that contributed to the north-south divide, and were contrary to the interests of the nation.

In response to this assertion, the judge reportedly told CBFC that "these conclusions are not subjective but based on objective facts, which are discernible from various scenes in the movie. " by 11 June. As a result, the petitioner should be told the precise sections that need to be changed if at all he is obliged to do so.
