Lyricist Vairamuthu Calls Out Tamil Filmmakers Over Unauthorized Use of His Verses in Movie Titles

Vairamuthu, a Tamil lyricist and poet, is curious as to why numerous filmmakers in the business have been using words from his poetry as movie titles without first seeking his approval. The lyricist, who has won several National Awards for his lyrical writing, posted a lengthy statement on his X account on Monday to discuss the topic.
What Vairamuthu said
Vairamuthu's article, which was in Tamil, started with the statement, "The Tamil film industry has used many of my verses as film titles. None of those who have taken them have asked my permission or even asked for a word of respect."
The lyricist next provided several illustrations to support his argument. He cited well-known Tamil film titles that incorporated his lyrics verbatim. 'Ponmaalai Pozhudhu', 'Ilaya Nila', 'Oorai Therinjikitten', 'Poove Poochooda Vaa', and 'Mouna Ragam' are just a few of the titles.
Why didn't you inquire before taking this action?
He stated, "Even though they stole my lyrics without credit, I have never criticized anybody or asked about it anytime and everywhere I met them." I find pleasure in the fact that knowledge, at least, becomes common property in a society where wealth is not shared in common. It would be impolite for me to say, "Why didn't you ask me before doing this?" But wouldn't it be just as impolite for them not to have said a single word to me?
As a result, Adhav Kannadasan, the protagonist of the 2013 movie Ponmaalai Pozhudhu, claimed that he had obtained permission to use the title. "Sir, with all due respect, we got your consent for #PonmaalaiPozhudhu because, as you said, it's a special feeling since the movie's title is using your lyrics as the granddaughter of #KaviyarasuKannadasan," he stated. You were happy. The film's lyrics were composed by my beloved @madhankarky sir. Thank you.
