The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) is willing to meet with actor Kamal Haasan to discuss the postponed release of his movie Thug Life in the state. Kamal recently provoked the ire of Kannadigas by stating at an event that Tamil gave birth to Kannada.

The latest statement from the KFCC regarding the controversy surrounding Kamal Haasan

"Ready to meet and discuss if Kamal Haasan wishes," a PTI message on Twitter stated. However, they also stated that everyone wants Kamal to apologize for his remarks, but the actor has not responded to the public's demand for an apology.

Following the ruling of the Karnataka High Court on the petition submitted by Raaj Kamal Films International, KFCC announced in a news release that an emergency executive committee meeting of the film organization was held on Tuesday. The meeting covered all that had transpired up to that point, including Haasan's letter about brotherhood, coexistence, love, trust, and other topics. We, like him, seek love and trust with the neighboring states. However, we have come to the conclusion that the government, the pro-Kannada organizations, and the people of the state as a whole want an unconditional apology," the statement stated.

Haasan has been asked by KFCC to retract his statement—that Kannada is descended from Tamil—and to offer an unqualified apology. "This is also what has been discussed very seriously in the Karnataka High Court. As a result, at Tuesday's meeting, we resolved to ask him to retract the statement and offer an apology, according to KFCC.

What's the status of the release of Thug Life?

Tuesday, the producers of the highly anticipated film informed the Karnataka High Court that the pan-Indian premiere date of June 5 will not see the release of Thug Life in Karnataka.

In front of Justice Nagaprasanna, the petitioner's counsel argued that the movie shouldn't be screened in Karnataka until the matter is resolved through discussion, adding that there was no malice and an apology was not necessary.

Raaj Kamal Films International, the production company, petitioned the court for sufficient security for the film's release in the state, which the court then scheduled for June 10.

What did Kamal Haasan say?

The court harshly criticized filmmaker Haasan during the hearing for saying that "Kannada was born out of Tamil," and it noted that "a single apology could have resolved the situation." Following a wave of outrage over the actor's recent remarks about the Kannada language and calls for him to apologize, the petition was submitted.

"It pains me that my statement at the Thug Life audio launch, spoken out of genuine affection for the legendary Dr Rajkumar's family, especially Shiva Rajkumar has been misunderstood and taken out of context," Kamal said in his letter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), recognizing the concerns of the film organization.

In no way did he want to belittle the Kannada language; rather, he simply wanted to express that "we are all one, and from the same (linguistic) family." "There is no dispute or debate on the rich legacy of Kannada language," he stated, expressing his profound regard for the people of Karnataka.
