The most recent addition to Jurassic World's dinosaur roster has piqued the interest of many fans, who are wondering about its origins. The origins of one of the film's most terrifying and recent additions to the silver screen have been validated by director Gareth Edwards, proving that some eagle-eyed viewers were correct in their theories.

The inspiration

Edwards told Screen Rant that the Xenomorph from Alien and Rancor from Star Wars served as design inspiration for the Distortus rex. The T-Rex, the first anti-villain in the Jurassic Park films, served as partial inspiration for the D-Rex, which is intended to be a hybrid/mutant dinosaur.

“I was like, ‘Alright, go watch The Elephant Man by David Lynch again.’ The notion that someone might not have chosen this for themselves. You could be terrified of them and wish they would vanish, but you begin to have some compassion. They have trouble breathing, have trouble walking, and other similar issues. When asked how he imagined the D-Rex's personality and animation, Edwards responded, "And I like that I'm torn between it being a monster and I want to get rid of it, but I also feel a bit sorry for it."

"Genetically engineered dinosaurs that are made of more than one dinosaurs mixed together which did not exist in the paleontological record" is how the Jurassic Park Wiki, a fan website for the series, defined a hybrid dinosaur.

Most of these hybrids, including the Indominus rex, the Indoraptor, and Scorpios rex, were created by Henry Wu in the mainline canon. Additionally, it states that hybrid dinosaurs may be seen in a variety of Jurassic Park media, including the Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect toy series and the films Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

The employment of mutated dinosaurs in the plotline may have intriguing implications for the direction of the franchise in the event that the movie were to have a sequel. Edwards' creation of the Giganotosaurus in Jurassic World: Dominion was influenced by earlier film aliens that were not dinosaurs, marking a relatively recent trend.

The conversation

The usage of mutant dinosaurs has also sparked an online debate among passionate followers about the implications for the franchise's future.

“Just learned that Jurassic World Rebirth will include a mutant dinosaur that was made specifically for the movie. After Fallen Kingdom, one follower said, "I honestly believed we were done with this 'dinosaur villains created just for the movie' garbage."

But others appeared thrilled by the prospect of introducing fresh and fascinating dinosaur species to the story.

The seventh film in the series, Jurassic World: Rebirth, is the first to feature a new cast and concept. In the United States, the movie was released in theaters on July 2.
