Weeks after George Wendt, the celebrity of 'Cheers,' passed away unexpectedly, the reason of his death has been discovered. According to a death certificate acquired by TMZ, Wendt, who gained notoriety for his portrayal of the barfly Norm Peterson throughout the NBC show's 11 seasons, passed away from cardiac arrest.

According to reports, the death certificate also listed congestive heart failure, hypertension, and coronary artery disease as underlying factors. Hyperlipidemia and end-stage renal illness (kidney failure) were among the additional factors mentioned.

At age 76, Wendt passed away "peacefully in his sleep" on Tuesday, May 17, according to the New York Post. "George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him," the family rep said in a statement to the publication. "He will be missed forever. At this time, the family is asking for privacy."

In 2024, Wendt made his last few public appearances. He received six Emmy nominations for his performance as Norm in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, which is noteworthy.

‘He was irresistible’

Following Wendt's passing, several of his co-stars gave the outlet statements in remembrance of him. Ted Danson, 77, who played Georgie in "Cheers," told a representative for him, "I am devastated to hear that Georgie is no longer with us." "I am sending all my love to Bernadette and the children. I'll need a lot of time to adjust to this. "I love you, Georgie."

"George Wendt was the sweetest, kindest man I ever met," said Rhea Perlman. One couldn't help but adore him. Since Norm always sat at the end of the bar, it was easy to catch him and thrash him at least once a week. I enjoyed doing it, and he enjoyed pretending it didn't hurt. Later, in two "Cheers" spin-offs—"The Tortellis" and "Frasier"—Wendt portrayed Norm. He is survived by his wife, the actress Bernadette Birkett; his children Hilary, Joe, and Daniel; and his stepchildren, Joshua and Andrew.
