Chris Watson, the father of Harry Potter star Emma Watson, has issued a warning to the parents of emerging child actors who are about to be introduced in the television adaptation of JK Rowling's magical series. In a recent interview, Chris remarked that while fame has its advantages, there are also unforeseen drawbacks that one might not anticipate.

Reports indicate that nearly 30,000 children auditioned for the leading roles, with Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout being selected to portray Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively.

The new cast will take on roles that have been forever associated with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. During an interview with Times Radio, Emma's father discussed the challenges and benefits of achieving stardom at such a young age.

'There could be downsides you couldn't have imagined'

When questioned about whether he ever felt apprehensive about the fame or the associated pressures, Chris responded, "As a parent, you must feel some fear. You realize this could go in either direction. It is a challenging situation for both a child and a parent to navigate. While there are numerous benefits, nothing is flawless, and it is essential to acknowledge that there will be many downsides, some of which may be unimaginable."

Despite the allure of fame, Chris stressed the importance of keeping Emma grounded. He highlighted that it was crucial for the studio to understand that Harry Potter was not the sole focus of Emma's life.

How Emma stayed grounded

"It certainly helped that I don’t actually watch movies. It’s not a significant aspect of our household, which limited the chances of her becoming overwhelmed by the spotlight. This made it easier for us to keep her grounded. Additionally, it was vital for the studio and everyone involved to recognize that this was not the entirety of Emma's existence; she had homework to complete, and she was also engaged in playing hockey and a bit of cricket," Chris explained.
