Denis Villeneuve, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the science fiction epic Dune universe, is prepared to switch gears and work on the upcoming James Bond movie, which is set in the espionage world. Denis has been chosen to helm the next Bond film, which will be the inaugural production from Amazon MGM.

Bond expedition on the horizon for Denis Villeneuve

The news was released by Amazon MGM Studios on Wednesday, along with the addition that Tanya Lapointe has joined the team as executive producer. David Heyman and Amy Pascal were previously named as producers.

"007 is associated with some of my first memories of going to the movies. Since Dr. No, I've been watching James Bond movies with my dad. Not with Sean Connery. I'm a devoted Bond supporter. In my opinion, he is holy ground, and I want to respect the custom and pave the way for many new missions to follow," Denis stated. This is a huge duty, but it's also very thrilling for me and a great privilege. I am overjoyed to have him back on television along with Amy and David. I appreciate Amazon MGM Studios' trust.

“Denis Villeneuve has been in love with James Bond movies since he was a little boy,” Pascal and Heyman stated in a joint statement. He has always wanted to create this film, and so have we. We are fortunate to have this amazing director in our midst.

Filmmakers actively seek out the James Bond franchise. The start of production on the movie is unknown. The Hollywood Reporter, however, claims that the hunt for a screenwriter to collaborate with Denis in order to bring the most recent version of the secret agent to the big screen is still ongoing.

Dune: Part 2, which made over $700 million in theaters and garnered numerous Oscar nominations, including best film, won the awards for best sound and best visual effects, was Denis' most recent film. He is now preparing for the third Dune film. He is also famous for movies like Incendies, Enemy, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049.

Regarding Bond films

The upcoming Bond film will be the franchise's 26th installment and the sequel to Cary Joji Fukunaga's No Time to Die, which was released in 2021. Denis, a French-Canadian, is the second non-British director to helm Bond, after Fukunaga.

This movie will also be the first Bond adventure after Amazon's $8.45 billion acquisition of MGM, 007's longtime supporter.

In a joint venture announced earlier this year, Michael and Barbara will co-own the intellectual property rights to James Bond with Amazon MGM Studios. But Amazon MGM has the last say on creativity. In 2022, Amazon paid USD 6.1 billion for MGM Studios.

The new agreement was reached after increasing conjecture concerning the spy's destiny, four years after Bond's last adventure in No Time to Die, which was also Daniel Craig's last performance in the role. Albert "Cubby" Broccoli debuted the Bond movies in 1962.
