Aruna Irani, a Bollywood veteran who has appeared in more than 500 films in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, and Gujarati cinema, recently discussed her relationship with her cousin and fellow actress Bindu. Aruna explained in a Lehren Retro interview why the two were never close, even though they were related.

Aruna Irani claims she was never intimate with Bindu

Aruna stated, "She is my step-massi's (aunt's) daughter," to clarify the familial connections. My maternal grandfather had two wives: one was my mother's mother, and the other was another woman. Bindu was the child of the second wife. As cousins, we were never close. Nanubhai Desai, her father, was a director, and they maintained a respectful distance at all times. In the past, my mother would frequently borrow money from Jyoti Maasi because she couldn't allow her children go hungry, as we didn't have much money.

Aruna Irani explains why she and Bindu are distant

She described how her family's circumstances brought them closer together and continued, "Unse baar baar ₹50 de do, ₹30 de do aise karke mujhe bhejte the lene ke liye." So they didn't like it. There's nothing wrong with that, but do you ask for money every minute? My mother would repeatedly send me to demand ₹30 or ₹50, thus we kept our distance because otherwise something would happen. They weren't fans of that. It was like, "Why do you keep asking for money all the time?" but there was nothing wrong with it. Therefore, we stayed apart since we believed that something unpleasant might result from it. We never became close after becoming actors because we never collaborated. We never had the opportunity to meet since folks would either choose her or me.

Aruna, who is versatile, started off as a kid performer before becoming a famous character actress. She then moved into television production and direction. Among her many impressive movies are Beta, Suhaag, Sargam, and Bobby. In contrast, Bindu became well-known in the 1970s and 1980s for her legendary vamp performances in movies like Kati Patang, Zanjeer, and Hawas. She became a mainstay in Bollywood's masala flicks, known for her glamour and commanding screen presence.
