Abhishek Banerjee and Rana Daggubati Respond to Kamal Haasan’s Kannada Remark Controversy: ‘Similar Issues with Marathi-Bihari…’

Ahead of the release of his movie Thug Life, actor Kamal Haasan is embroiled in a linguistic dispute. The movie, directed by Mani Ratnam, has been banned from being released in Karnataka, and Kamal has stood firm in his assertion that Kannada originated from Tamil, for which he has not apologized. His remarks were recently criticized by the Karnataka High Court, which also called him out for failing to issue an apology. But when questioned about it in an interview with India Today, Rana Daggubati and Abhishek Banerjee responded in this manner.

Why actors are admired is something Rana Daggubati asks

Regarding Kamal's language dispute, Rana questioned why, rather than scholars or politicians, actors are admired for their lifestyle. "Social media has now become a place to express an opinion," he said. You didn't have that before. Everything turns political and sensitive very fast. The world will be a better place if people become more intelligent (and comprehend) that celebrities are not the ones to speak for how society lives, as well as the media and news. In order to lead a route into society, I believe you should examine scholars, politicians, and educated men and women.

It is comparable to the conflict between Marathi and Bihari, according to Abhishek Banerjee

Abhishek, his co-star in Rana Naidu, concurred with Rana and drew a parallel between it and the Marathi-Bihari conflict in Maharashtra, saying, "When I came to Bombay many years back, I heard the same thing about the Marathi-Bihari and Kannada-Tamil conflict, which has been going on." I believe it to be utterly useless and worthless. People who have nothing else to do will simply attempt to attract attention while doing this. In addition, he noted that language is useful for fostering culture and teaching people, but not for creating division.

With the exception of Karnataka, Thug Life will be available nationwide on June 5. Whether the action will have an impact on its box office receipts is still unknown.
