Ahead of the release of his movie Thug Life, actor Kamal Haasan is embroiled in a linguistic dispute. The movie, directed by Mani Ratnam, has been banned from being released in Karnataka, and Kamal has stood firm in his assertion that Kannada originated from Tamil, for which he has not apologized. His remarks were recently criticized by the Karnataka High Court, which also called him out for failing to issue an apology. But when questioned about it in an interview with India Today, Rana Daggubati and Abhishek Banerjee responded in this manner.

Regarding Kamal's language dispute, Rana questioned why, rather than scholars or politicians, actors are admired for their lifestyle. "Social media has now become a place to express an opinion," he said. You didn't have that before. Everything turns political and sensitive very fast. The world will be a better place if people become more intelligent (and comprehend) that celebrities are not the ones to speak for how society lives, as well as the media and news. Abhishek, his co-star in Rana Naidu, concurred with Rana and drew a parallel between it and the Marathi-Bihari conflict in Maharashtra, saying, "When I came to Bombay many years back, I heard the same thing about the Marathi-Bihari and Kannada-Tamil conflict, which has been going on."
