₹5 Crore Legal Notice Issued to Nayanthara’s Netflix Documentary Producers Over Chandramukhi Footage

The issues surrounding Nayanthara's Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, appear to never cease. The makers of the 2005 blockbuster Chandramukhi sent a legal notice to Netflix and the firm that created the documentary for utilizing film from the movie in the series without permission after Dhanush filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and the producers. According to a LiveLaw article, they got a notice from the Madras High Court on Tuesday.
From the HC, a formal warning was issued to the makers of the Nayanthara documentary
Netflix: Beyond The Fairytale's illegal use of Chandramukhi footage prompted the Madras HC to send notices to Tarc Studio LLP and Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP.
At the request of AP International, which owned the copyright to the film over the original producers, Sivaji Productions, the notices were published. The firm owns the audio and song video rights to the film, with the exception of the audio cassette and CD rights in certain nations.
It is alleged that, rather than acquiring the required permission or license, the producers and OTT platform utilized YouTube footage from the movie. The business said that it had sent a cease and desist order to the manufacturers, requesting that they compensate them for damages totaling ₹5 crore. After that, the producers reportedly contacted the business to obtain the rights.
The firm is currently requesting that the court grant a permanent injunction prohibiting the filmmakers from using the film and ordering them to delete the sections of the documentary that featured Chandramukhi footage. This follows a statement made by Sivaji Productions earlier this year that they had not filed a 5-crore lawsuit against Nayanthara and had granted the NOC.
Concerning Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale
Netflix released Beyond The Fairytale in November 2024. The story follows Nayanthara's life and career; she is currently married to Vignesh Shivan and has twin daughters with him.
Prior to the start of streaming, the actor penned an open letter to Dhanush stating that he had denied them permission to utilize material from the 2015 movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which he produced and her husband directed. Despite the disagreements between the performers, the movie still made use of the footage. He filed a case against her in the High Court seeking ₹10 crore in damages.
