Soubin Shahir, a Malayalam actor and producer, was taken into custody in connection with a financial crime case involving the successful 2024 movie Manjummel Boys, in which he starred and served as the film's producer. According to an Asianet article, the police also detained producers Babu Shahir and Shawn Anthony before letting them out on bond, in addition to Soubin.

For financial fraud, Soubin Shahir was taken into custody

According to the report, the Maradu police in Kerala detained Soubin along with the producers but released them after filing their arrest since they had anticipatory bail. The court granted anticipatory bail and ordered the actor to be there for interrogation. The court additionally ordered that if the defendant were taken into custody, they should not be interrogated and should be freed on bail. On Tuesday, Soubin, Babu, and Shawn were all granted bail.

The case of financial fraud against the Manjummel Boys team

The creators of the popular Malayalam film Manjummel Boys are charged with stealing ₹7 crore by guaranteeing a 40% income share. When the cops submitted an affidavit in 2024 arguing that the manufacturers should not be given bail, the High Court heard the matter. The producers' appeal to dismiss the case was denied by the High Court, as was the police's request to interview them in custody.

The police assert that the money earned from the film should be thoroughly investigated. The police filed an investigation report against Soubin and co, alleging that the fraud was pre-planned and that the complainant was led to believe that the first schedule was finished even before the shooting started.

Sacnilk reported that the movie grossed ₹240.5 billion globally. The movie is the second-highest Malayalam film ever produced, after Prithviraj Sukumaran's Mohanlal-starring L2 Empuraan, and the top Malayalam film of 2024 in terms of revenue.
