Deity and Worship

The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god who is worshipped as the remover of obstacles and the lord of beginnings. The idol here is believed to be over 500 years old and is unique for facing right – a rare depiction of Ganesha known as Dakshinabhimukhi Ganesha. Special prayers and aarti are conducted daily, with Wednesdays drawing the largest crowds as it is considered especially auspicious for Ganesha worship.

Historical Background

The temple was built in 1761 by Seth Jai Ram Paliwal, a wealthy businessman who transported the idol from Gujarat to Jaipur. Legend says that the cart carrying the idol stopped at the foot of Moti Dungri Hill, and the temple was constructed at that exact location. The structure was inspired by the Scottish castle style of architecture, making it a rare blend of European and Indian design.
