The much-anticipated entry of Tesla into the Indian market is accelerating, with the company set to launch its second "Experience Centre" in India. Following the inauguration of its first showroom in Mumbai last month, the electric vehicle giant is now turning its attention to the capital. The new facility, located in Delhi’s upscale Aerocity, will open on August 11, 2025, marking a significant step in the company’s strategy to establish a strong presence in the National Capital Region (NCR).
A Strategic Move to Capture a Key Market
The choice of Aerocity for Tesla’s second location is no accident. Situated in a premium commercial hub near the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the area is a prime destination for high-end retail and corporate offices. This strategic location places the showroom within easy reach of a large and affluent customer base in Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida—three of the country’s most important and EV-friendly urban markets.
Like its Mumbai counterpart, the Delhi centre is designed to be more than just a showroom. It will serve as an immersive experience hub, allowing prospective customers to get a hands-on feel for Tesla’s cutting-edge technology, sleek design, and commitment to sustainable transport. The inauguration of this facility underscores Tesla’s calculated approach to India: a focus on premium metro markets where EV adoption is already gaining momentum and where the brand’s luxury positioning can thrive.

The Model Y Takes the Spotlight
With the Delhi launch, the Tesla Model Y will continue to be the star of the show. The mid-sized electric SUV, which recently made its Indian debut, will be on display in both its Rear-Wheel Drive and Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive variants. These models, imported from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, have been priced at around ₹60 lakh and ₹68 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
The opening of the Delhi centre will also be accompanied by the expansion of Tesla's charging infrastructure. While the company has already activated its first Supercharger station in Mumbai, it is expected to announce plans for similar facilities in and around Delhi. This parallel effort to build out a charging network is crucial for addressing one of the biggest concerns for potential EV buyers and is a key part of Tesla's broader strategy to support its vehicles in the Indian market.
The Road Ahead: A Cautious but Confident Entry
Tesla’s entry into India has been a long time coming, fraught with years of negotiation and speculation. The company's current strategy, which involves importing completely built units (CBU) rather than manufacturing locally, is a cautious yet confident step. The Delhi Experience Centre, along with the Mumbai location, will act as a barometer for market demand before the company commits to larger-scale investments like a local factory.
For the Indian consumer, the arrival of a global EV giant like Tesla is a major boost to the country's electric mobility ecosystem. It not only brings a world-class product but also intensifies competition, which could drive innovation and better offerings from other players in the market. As the doors open in Aerocity on August 11, it will not just be a new showroom; it will be a tangible sign of the future of mobility in India.
